Elite Cobra Mk III Classic 2016-03-02

I'm an old fan of the game Elite. I thought it would be good to build the classic versions of the ships. In particular, the flag ship Cobra Mk III.

So, here it is. I built it in the guise of the original classic version as you would have seen on the British computer the BBC. Elite is one of the original procedural games.

Oh yeah, when close to finishing this ship I thought, "Oops, I should have looked up the dimensions". So I checked them out and as it turns out I fluked the dimensions. It's almost exactly the ones mentioned on this Wiki 65x30x130. My build is 63x22x121, so it's close.

My main reference for building this ship was the following pics.

Which is why the core is where it is.

    The Wolflaynce Review

The Good: Incredible! I am suitably impressed how you did this. An exact replica of the original from Elite, down to the wire-frame look. Which was incredibly clever and creative on how you pulled that off!

The Bad: I found two holes on the upper hull. Very hard to find as I had to be at the correct angle to find them.

The Ugly: I hooked up an Activator to turn off all the lights just to see what it would look like. I expected it to disappear entirely, but I could still make it out. Just a minor ugly, really.

The Verdict: WOW! Almost made me dig out my old copy of Frontier: Elite II* and try to get it to work in DOSBox. Well made, well made.

    * I liked how II looked better than the first one. A slap dash of color and presto!

Hey, thanks for the comments Wolflaynce. Much appreciated!

Yeah, I understand turning off the lights. I like Frontier. It had the planet side and the 3 stations orbiting Earth use to crack me up. The US station being the smallest and the Japanese being the largest.
