The Ceres is mostly meant to serve as light escort and police ship. She is designed for a crew of 5 plus 1 passanger/specialist. A fully operational warp drive makes her independend on jump gates.
Her standard side cannons consist of a beam array and a simple torpedo luncher (Missile/Beam).
It's as not often seen, but the Ceres has also a heavy torpedo luncher system avaible, capable of dealing very high damage to shields.
Since these modules don't go easy on the ships manoeuvrability it became common practice for battle groups to bring them into the battle zone and then throw them off. These modules are then used as stationary weapon plattforms.
